Ski operators group rolls out blizzard of packages

DENVER -- The Ski Tour Operators Association, an organization of 24 companies, unveiled a roster of ski packages for the coming season.

A roundup follows:

  • Mountain Vacations. The Denver-based firm is offering its first charter ski package to Gunnison, Colo., serving the Crested Butte ski area.
  • Available Jan. 14 to April 4, the flights depart Chicago's O'Hare Airport Wednesdays and Sundays. Three-, four- and seven-night packages are available. January prices begin at $399 per person, double.

    Flights from other U.S. gateways are available on United Airlines and American Airlines.

  • Ski the Rockies. This La Grange, Ill.-based firm features a Romance in Whistler package that includes air fare from New York, four nights' accommodations and a three-day lift ticket.
  • The operator's packages are priced at $679 per person, double, with additional nights and discounted air fare from additional gateways available.

    The company also features nonstop service via Air Canada from Chicago to Calgary, Alberta, serving the Banff/Lake Louise ski area.

    Packages begin at $589 per person, quad, for five nights in a two-bedroom deluxe family unit, four days of skiing and air fare.

  • Adventure Tours USA. This Dallas-based firm offers charter flight programs from Dallas/Fort Worth to Lake Tahoe, Calif./Nev. and to Durango Mountain Resort in Colorado.
  • There are two weekly flights to Lake Tahoe on Fridays and Mondays from Dec. 15 through March 16.

    Participants can ski at Heavenly in South Lake Tahoe as well.

    Prices begin at $299 per person, double, for three nights.

    There will be four weekly flights to Durango Mountain Resort from Dallas.

    One child age 12 or younger skis free with every three-plus-day adult lift ticket.

    A three-night package, including air fare and lodging, begins at $349 per person, double.

  • Sportours. The Montrose, Calif.-based firm designed a five-night package to Copper Mountain, Colo., including accommodations in a two-bedroom condo, ground transfers and four days of skiing.
  • Rates are valid from Feb. 1 through March 5, and begin at $435 per person, for five people sharing.

    An early season package to Silver Star, British Columbia, is available Nov. 25 to Dec. 21 and includes five nights' accommodations at the Victorian-style Silver Star Club Resort.

    The package begins at $382 per person, double, including transfers and four days of skiing.

  • Daman-Nelson Travel. From its San Diego base, Daman-Nelson created a seven-night Steal of the Century plan to Elkhorn Resort in Sun Valley, Idaho. The package features lodging and a five-day lift ticket from $499 per person, double, from Jan. 6 through March 3.
  • A four-night Banff Humdingers package includes four nights' accommodations at Banff Springs Hotel and three nights at the Chateau Lake Louise in Alberta.

    Also included are a five-day interchangeable lift pass for Lake Louise, Sunshine Village and Mount Norquay as well as ground transfers from Calgary Airport, daily shuttles to the slopes and orientation parties.

    The package costs from $665 per person, double; air-inclusive packages are available.

  • Moguls Ski & Snowboard Tours. This Boulder, Colo. firm has a seven-night package to Cottonwood Canyons in Salt Lake City, including an interchangeable lift ticket to Alta, Snowbird, Brighton and Solitude.
  • Participants receive accommodations at the Marriott Cottonwood Residence Inn, a five-day lift ticket and use of a car rental for a week.

    Rates begin at $499 per person, quad, through Dec. 14.

    A Canada package offers a seven-night stay at either the Banff Springs Hotel, Chateau Lake Louise or the Jasper Springs Hotel, a four-day lift ticket and use of a rental car.

  • The seven-night plan covers lodging, a six-day lift ticket and transfers. Prices begin at $569 per person, double.

    The firm also has a seven-night plan to Big Mountain near Kalispell, Mont., at the Grouse Mountain Lodge. The plan, including a five-day lift ticket and transfers, starts at $515 per person, double, with air add-ons available.
