Sonesta rolls out deals to lure visitors

SOUTHAMPTON -- Family-reunion packages, discounted wedding services and a Super Saver rate program are some of the latest features at the 400-room Sonesta Beach Resort & Spa Bermuda here.

The property recently upgraded its lobby, front entrance and elevators, and agency commission remains at 10% on all sales.

Value-added deals for the summer, some of which continue into next year, include a Super Saver room rate. Through Aug. 31, the rate is $275 per night, subject to availability. The price falls to $245 from Sept. 1 through Nov. 15 and to $140 from Nov. 16 through March 31.

The property also provides a fifth night free to individual guests who pay for four nights and stay through Aug. 31. From Sept. 1 through Nov. 30, there is a fourth night free offer when three nights are paid.

Other value-added deals include participation in the island's Compliments of Bermuda program. For more on this program, see 'Compliments' plan offers free air ticket.

The hotel is taking part in the Sonesta chain's family reunion package, called Our Family Invites Your Family. This package has value-added features, as well, including a cake and a group photo.

The program requires a minimum three-night stay and a block of at least eight rooms. One room is upgraded to a suite and there is a 25% discount for every second room.

In addition, roundtrip airport transfers and enrollment in the Just Us Kids and Just Us Teens programs are provided at no extra cost. Rates through Aug. 31 for three-night packages are $1,050, double, for an islandview room; and $1,185, double, for a waterview unit.

From Sept. 1 through Nov. 15, rates decrease to $990 and $1,080, respectively, and to $630 and $660 from Nov. 16 through March 31.

Children ages 16 and younger stay free when sharing a room with parents; those 17 and older pay $70 per night.

The hotel also set a 15% discount for its midweek (Mondays through Thursdays) wedding receptions and banquet services. While the Sonesta is popular with honeymooners, it also is playing host to more weddings. Last year, there were 150.

Wedding services can accommodate up to 500 guests. Components can include a spa bridal shower party, a rehearsal dinner barbecue on the beach and horse-and-buggy rides for the bride and groom.

The wedding celebration can range from an intimate party on the beach at sunset to a banquet on the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

Meanwhile, overall bookings at the property are healthy, according to Donald Weber, the hotel's director of sales and marketing.

"We are seeing an increase from last year for July," Weber said, who added that bookings for August are running at about the same pace.
