South African Airways adds flights from Kennedy Airport

MIAMI -- South African Airways added scheduled flights departing from New York (Kennedy) to Johannesburg, South Africa.

The new schedule was designed to accommodate the growing needs of business and leisure travelers for service to South Africa, the company said.

SAA Flight SA202 will depart Kennedy at 10:50 a.m. with nonstop service, arriving the following day in Johannesburg at 7:55 a.m.

patroling lion. Tuesday flights will depart at 10:50 a.m., making a stop at Ilha do Sal in the Cape Verde Islands, and arrive in Johannesburg the next day at 9:55 a.m.

Flight SA201 from Johannesburg will continue to depart at 9 p.m., arriving in New York at 7:30 a.m. the next day.

The new schedule will allow travelers a full day upon arrival in South Africa and provide passengers more time to make connecting flights to various African gateways, SAA said.

"Our new flight schedule is geared toward enhancing the amount of time at the destination for both leisure and business passengers," said Phillip J. Bekker, SAA executive vice president. "We are confident that both will benefit from the increase in hours now available to them after landing."

Separately, the airline announced special fares available to travel agents and their immediate families on roundtrip international and domestic service to South Africa. As of November 1999, SAA will offer a special travel agent rate of $550, plus applicable taxes, for international roundtrip economy air fare to South Africa from New York or Miami.

Special domestic rates within South Africa also are available to agents.

Fares from Johannesburg and Cape Town to various gateways begin at $60. (SAA Airlink and SAA Air Express are not currently participating in the promotion.)
