South Beach's 236-room Marriott prepares for its spring opening

MIAMI BEACH -- The 236-room Miami Beach Marriott at South Beach is under construction on an oceanfront site on Ocean Drive between First and Second streets.

When the property opens next spring, all rooms will have sliding glass door balconies, with ocean or downtown skyline views and two-line phones with a computer dataport and voice mail. Other equipment will include coffeemakers, safes, irons and ironing boards.

The units will have an elegant Art Deco theme, and 11 rooms will be wheelchair-accessible. Concierge-level guests will have a private lounge offering views of cruise ships and the port of Miami.

The 11-story hotel will have a specialty restaurant, an oceanfront pool bar and cafe, a pool, a fitness center, water sports, beach cabanas and bicycle rentals.

Also available will be a courtyard, two gift shops, a sushi bar, valet parking, 24-hour room service and a bilingual staff.

Meeting facilities will include a 2,130-foot ballroom that can handle banquets for 172 and receptions for up to 206 people; three meeting rooms of more than 1,000 square feet, and a boardroom.
