St. John eateries flavor the island

CRUZ BAY -- New restaurants and eating spots, as well as some seasoned favorites, add spice to St. John.

A sampling follows:

  • La Tapa recently reopened in Cruz Bay after a three-month renovation. Improvements to the Spanish-themed restaurant include a new kitchen, a bar and expanded seating. A new feature is tapas hours, weekdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Twice a month, a sushi chef combines Japanese and Spanish dishes. Dinner hours are 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. nightly.

  • Visitors in search of gourmet picnic food to take to the beach or on hikes should visit Tropicale in Mongoose Junction.
  • The gourmet deli offers breakfast, lunch and dinner specials including pizzas; breads; fish; meats and cheeses; sandwiches, and beer, wine and spirits to go.

    Tropicale is open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sundays.

  • Morgan's Mango in Mongoose Junction, a longtime favorite, continues to expand its dinner menus. Blackened fish sandwiches, conch fritters, seafood, steak and pasta win accolades from visitors.
  • The restaurant serves dinner nightly from 5 p.m.
