MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica -- Two American tourists sustained minor injuries after a fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at the Starfish Trelawny resort in the northwestern parish of Trelawny, about 23 miles east of here.

The injured American tourists were taken to a hospital in Montego Bay and later released.

A spokeswoman for SuperClubs, which manages the 350-room resort, said police were investigating the cause of the blaze, which broke out in a basement storeroom used to house old mattresses. Arson was not ruled out. The fire, which produced heavy smoke, caused no damage to the hotel's rooms and public spaces, and the hotel is fully operational, the spokeswoman said.
