Starwood to manage Kona Surf Hotel

HONOLULU -- Starwood Hotels & Resorts will begin managing the Kona Surf Hotel at Keauhou Bay on the Big Island in about one week, when final details of are settled, an official said.

Keith Vieira, senior vice president for Starwood Hotels and Resorts in Hawaii, said the property will undergo a $50 million renovation, which is scheduled for completion by next summer.

In preparation for construction, new owners Koa Hotels LLC are liquidating the contents from 530 rooms.

Upon completion, pricing will be similar to the Sheraton Kauai, Vieira said .
