Starwood to return to Las Vegas this fall

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Starwood Hotels & Resorts said it will return to Las Vegas this fall when it opens the 825-room Westin Casuarina Hotel & Spa, the company's first ever Westin hotel in Nevada.

Starwood sold Caesars Palace and the Desert Inn Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in 1999 and 2000, respectively.

The Westin Casuarina will be located at the site of the former Maxim Hotel across from Bally's.

It will feature a 20,000-square-foot casino, spa, restaurant and meetings space for up to 850 people.

The 17-story hotel, which is owned by Columbia Sussex Corp., is in the midst of a $75 million refurbishment. Starwood will franchise the hotel under its Westin brand.
