State Dept. issues Haiti advice

WASHINGTON -- The State Department said political activists in Haiti have started establishing temporary roadblocks throughout the country in preparation for parliamentary elections in the spring and presidential elections in November.

Violence historically accompanies Haitian political campaigns, and U.S. travelers who encounter a roadblock or large crowd "should remain calm and depart the area quickly," the department said.

The advice was contained in an updated consular information sheet for Haiti.
