NEW YORK -- Sandals Resorts' Chairman Gordon "Butch" Stewart
revealed details of two additional Sandals resorts that will open
this winter in Jamaica as well as expansion plans for Sandals
Antigua Resort & Spa.
The two new resorts, which will add more than 500 new rooms to
Sandals' inventory, include the 360-room Sandals Whitehouse
European Village & Spa, set to open in February on Jamaica's
uncharted south coast, and the 529-room Sandals Grande Ocho Rios
Beach & Villa Resort, opening in December.
While the Whitehouse property is new construction, the Sandals
Grand was previously two separate properties that are now joined
together in one resort on 110 acres with 95 pools, 12 restaurants
and two full service spas.
Named general manager of Sandals Whitehouse is Sandals and
Beaches Resorts' veteran Jeremy Jones, previously general manager
of Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort & Spa in
Michael Darby was named general manager of Sandals Grande Ocho
Rios resort, the largest Sandals in the chain. Darby had been at
the helm of Sandals Ocho Rios Resort & Golf Club.
Meanwhile, a $25 million development plan on Antigua "will
significantly expand our product," Stewart said. The project calls
for 114 new rooms, of which 14 will be suites with private plunge
pools; two new restaurants, and a variety of entertainment options
in a Mediterranean Village-themed area.
Stewart said that a rack rate "Recreation Sale" will offer up to
a 40% discount at the Ocho Rios resort for traveling beginning Jan.
1 on stays of three or more nights.
