SunTrips adds air service for popular Mexico destinations

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Reacting to the demand for its Mexico product, SunTrips said it will add flights to Cancun, Cozumel and Los Cabos this year.

Starting March 23, the operator will add a third weekly flight to Cancun from Oakland, Calif., with continuing service to Cozumel.

The new Saturday flight, which will run through Aug. 17, will add a six-night rotation to SunTrips' three-, four- and seven-night Cancun itineraries.

Package rates with the new flight start at $619 per person, double, for a European plan, and $779 for an inclusive plan at the Barcelo Las Perlas, which include roundtrip air fare and airport transfers.

The operator offers more than 50 hotels in Cancun, the Riviera Maya and Cozumel, including such brands as Palace Resorts, Barcelo, Hyatt, Allegro, Blue Bay and a number of independent properties.

Meanwhile, SunTrips said it will add extra flights from Oakland to Los Cabos on March 7, 14 and 21 as a result of increased demand for the destination from the Bay Area.

Three-, four- and seven-night packages will be available to 20 inclusive and European plan resorts in San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, with three-night packages starting at $399 per person, double, including roundtrip air fare and airport transfers.

Among the hotels charging the $399 price are the Crown Hotel, Villa La Paloma and Hotel Santa Fe. Air-only rates also are available.
