NAPA -- Jazz aficionados have one more opportunity to enjoy their
favorite music in conjunction with a ride on California's popular
The last in the series of Sunday jazz concerts -- in the station
and available to returning lunch guests and departing dinner guests
-- will be on April 18. The concert, by guitarist Lloyd Gregory,
starts at 4:15 . The luncheon excursion returns 45 minutes earlier,
and the dinner train boards 45 minutes later.
The music will
continue for dinner guests on the train, with performers Car Vast
and Davis Ramey taking over from Gregory.
The lunch ride costs $69, and a place at the dinner table on the
train costs $75. Each trip includes a four-course gourmet meal,
train fare and two glasses of local wine. The Wine Train runs from
Napa to Calistoga and back -- a two-hour run -- twice a day. Its
schedule is highlighted by special events and presentations.
Besides the jazz program, for example, there is a Murder on the
Wine Train Express series, complete with actors in 1915-style
costumes roaming the train and involving the riders in a ssearch
for a fictional killer The cost of that program is $99 (four-course
meal included but not beverage). The Murder Train runs once a
month, starting April 23 and continuing through the year.
Family Fun Nights, offering those between the ages of 3 and 12 a
private carriage with games, movies and special meals under
supervision while their parents enjoy a gourmet meal in another
part of the train, is priced at $69.50 for adults, with the
children (up to two per family) riding for free. Additional
