Sunterra assumes management of St. Croix hotel

CHRISTIANSTED, U.S. Virgin Islands -- Orlando-based Sunterra Resorts assumed management of the former Westin Carambola Beach Resort on St. Croix on Dec. 1.

Sunterra purchased the 151-room resort on the island's north coast from Kentucky-based Columbia-Sussex Group last year and plans to convert six rooms into time-share units. The resort will be known as the Carambola Beach Resort.

The new general manager is Rich Cassara, who was area resort manager for Sunterra Resorts Royal Palm Beach and Flamingo Beach in St. Maarten.

Several packages are offered this winter with rates valid through April 4.

  • The five-night golf program includes accommodations and four days of unlimited golf and transfers at the adjacent Carambola Golf Club. Rates start at $1,772, double, with an additional $230 for a second golfer.
  • The seven-night dive program includes three two-tank beach dives and two night dives per person. Rates start at $2,858, double.
  • The seven-night honeymoon package includes accommodations, welcome champagne basket, T-shirts, an island sightseeing tour, a couples' massage and an excursion to Buck Island. Rates start at $2,483 per couple.
