SuperClubs changes price structure to two-day minimum

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- SuperClubs said it revamped its pricing structure so retailers can save time.

According to Bob Gilbert, senior vice president of marketing and sales, the majority of inclusives do their pricing based on length of stay. "This is a disadvantage to guests who want to stay a few nights. It is not easy for agents to work out [pricing] on a per night basis.

"After listening to agents voice their concerns about the industry being complicated and the difference among all the resorts, we felt, let's attack it from a building block. We sat down with some agents who said to go for a very simple per day rate," he said.

The policy applies to SuperClubs' nine resorts in Jamaica and the Bahamas for 2000. As part of the overhaul, the inclusives chain reduced its minimum stay from three nights to two. The pricing structure is now based on two-night stays.

For example, the Grand Lido Braco in Jamaica set a daily rate of $310 per person from Jan. 3 to April 22. Starting April 23, the price drops to $170.

The chain also wanted to increase its market share by changing its minimum requirements. "In the travel industry, we are experiencing a trend toward shorter vacations," Gilbert said. "We are giving more flexibility for a shorter period."

The pricing is available at Grand Lido Negril, Grand Lido Sans Souci, Grand Lido Braco, Breezes Golf and Beach Resort, Breezes Montego Bay, Hedonism II and Hedonism III (scheduled to open Sept. 1), all in Jamaica, plus Breezes Bahamas.
