Tax Proposals Slated to Hit Tourists in Virgin Islands

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands -- Three proposed tax bills now circulating in the Senate here take aim at tourists. The first bill calls for a $2 charge on automated teller machine use, applied to cards from banks outside the Virgin Islands. The second would hike hotel taxes from 8% to 10%, and a third would charge a cruise passenger head tax of $2.50 per person.
