Texas wildfire alerts are issued

AUSTIN, Texas -- Due to an increasing wildfire threat, the National Weather Service issued a Near Red Flag warning for central Texas and the Hill Country on Aug. 18, and the Texas Forest Service (TFS) issued a Fire Safety Alert for most of the state.

The Division of Emergency Management and TFS are urging Texans to take extra precautions to avoid accidentally starting a wildfire.

Lack of rainfall and humidity throughout the state, combined with the expectation of windy conditions, has led to increased fire concerns for the Hill Country and central, north central, northeast and southeast parts of the state.
