Tour focuses on gardens

Litchfield, Conn. -- If you have clients who are garden lovers, take note.

Litchfield, Conn.-based Expo Garden Tours is offering a seven-night tour of Jamaica's tropical gardens, March 18 to 25. The package costs from $2,133 per person, double.

It includes a four-night stay at the Enchanted Garden Resort in Ocho Rios; three nights at Strawberry Hill in the mountains above Kingston, and five days of touring the island's finest gardens.

The rate also includes daily breakfast, three lunches, five dinners, garden admission fees and ground transportation.

Jamaica's plant diversity is the largest in the Caribbean, making it a perfect choice for garden lovers. For example, Jamaica has more than 3,800 species of flowering plants, including close to 1,000 endemic varieties.

There are more than 200 species of orchids, 500 species of ferns and 10 varieties of cacti.

Jamaica's plant richness is due to its varied topography and geography, which include a cloud forest (in the Blue Mountains), wetlands and tropical dry forests. Jamaica's public gardens were created to encourage the island's agricultural development.
