TourCrafters creates plans that tee off near Rome

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. -- Tour-Crafters is hoping to entice golfers to tee off in the Roman countryside. The operator has a Castel Gandolfo package that includes five nights' accommodations, with breakfast at the Parkhotel Villa Graiziol, a 17th century villa.

Clients play three rounds of golf (with transfers) at the nearby Castel Gandolfo Country Club. The trip is priced from $1,159 through Dec. 31 and $1,169 from Jan. 1 to May 30.

Another plan involves accommodations at Marco Simone Golf Resort -- home to two 18-hole courses. Prices start at $889 through Dec. 20 and $979 from Jan. 1 to May 30.

Its Parco dei Medici program features play at the Parco dei Medici golf course, which boasts the remains of a first century Roman dwelling near the 18th hole. Accommodations are at the Sheraton Golf Hotel and Resort, which operates a free shuttle service to downtown Rome.

The price starts at $1,079 through Dec. 31 and $1,169 from Jan. 1 to May 30. The above packages feature roundtrip air from New York, Boston, Chicago and Miami. From Los Angeles, clients should tack on an extra $140.

Airport transfers, accommodations for five nights, breakfast and three rounds of golf round out the tour components. Airport taxes are additional, and TourCrafters said an additional air supplement might apply from Dec. 14 to Jan. 4, March 24 to 30 and April 15 to May 30.
