Tourism Ireland to go on the 'Shamrock Trail'


NEW YORK -- Tourism Ireland will target top-producing agent graduates of its Shamrock Club destination-specialist program with a series of sales calls, presentations and evening events set to run in six U.S. urban markets from June 16 to 20.

The new "Shamrock Trail" promotional push aims at boosting bookings for the rest of 2003 from the Boston, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, southern California and Washington/Baltimore/Philadelphia areas.

The effort was planned "in response to emerging signs of improving conditions in the marketplace," said Jim McGuigan, executive vice president, North America, at Tourism Ireland.

The promotion will entail a weeklong series of sales calls and presentations to be made at Shamrock Club member offices, as well as themed "Irish evenings" in each market.

The Shamrock Club program, first launched five years ago, now counts 7,500 members; the six chosen markets boast the highest density of top-producing agents enrolled in the program.
