Tourist group, Qantas create joint packages

LOS ANGELES -- The Australian Tourist Commission and Qantas Airways have put together a 12-night air-and-land package to Australia with savings of up to $1,000 per person.

Air-and-hotel vacation prices range from $1,500 to $2,400 from Los Angeles, depending on the season and level of accommodations.

Accommodations are in Accor hotels in Sydney, Melbourne and Cairns.

The starting price from New York is $1,800.

The packages are valid from Nov. 1 through Aug. 31.

Seven Australia wholesalers, including Swain Australia Tours, ATS Tours, Qantas Vacations, Abel Tasman Tours, Goway, Inta-Aussie and Brendan Tours are selling the packages at the same prices.

The promotion also is being marketed directly to consumers who call a toll-free number and then are randomly transfered to one of the wholesalers.

Packages include four nights in each city with a choice of hotels in three price ranges.

Add-on air is available from Boston; Chicago; Dallas; Las Vegas; Miami; Newark; Portland, Ore.; San Diego; San Francisco; Seattle, and Washington.

The packages also include all domestic flights within Australia.
