Trafalgar adds Copper Canyon trip for 2002

NEW YORK -- Trafalgar Tours added an eight-night itinerary to Mexico's Copper Canyon to its 2002 product line.

The escorted trip begins and ends in Phoenix. It visits San Carlos, Alamos, El Fuerte, the Copper Canyon/Posada Barrancas and Casas Grandes. The trip includes drives through the Sonoran desert, visits to local Tarahumara Indian communities and a train ride across the Copper Canyon.

The Chihuahua al Pacifico railway between Los Mochis and Chihuahua, known in English as the Copper Canyon railway, offers a scenic trip of Mexico, as it traverses 86 tunnels and more than 39 bridges at heights of up to 7,000 feet. A full day of the trip is devoted to hiking or horseback riding through the canyon.

The package costs $1,399 per person, double, land only. Departures are scheduled for Feb. 24 to Nov. 29, 2002, and Jan. 21 to March 21, 2003. The rate includes daily breakfasts, six dinners, the services of an English-speaking guide and the train ride.
