AMERICAN AIRLINES will offer a new daily Los Angeles-Kauai flight on 757 aircraft starting June 15. American will compete with United Airlines on the Los Angeles-Kauai route. United also uses 757 aircraft with daily service on the same route. When American starts its Kauai flight, it will offer service from Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose and St. Louis. to the islands of Kauai, Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.

THE WAIKIKI BEACH Marriott Resort and the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel both finished major multi-million dollar renovations. Both hotels are Marriott International brands. The Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort received $60 million in work while renovations on the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel totalled $27 million. Both resorts can be found on line at www.marriott.com.

THE KAPALUA BAY HOTEL, a Starwood property, changed its name to the Kapalua Bay Hotel & Ocean Villas in a move to better market its 15 private ocean view villas. THE HAWAII VISITORS & Convention Bureau added a multi-media component to help educate its travel agent partners who want to become Hawaii specialists. The interactive CD features Hawaiian video and music and complements the Ke Kula 'O Hawaii self-study training program. That program was started in 1999 and has certified 5,700 agents. MARC RESORTS Hawaii and the Hyatt Regency Maui are offering separate cash bonuses to travel agents for room bookings. Reservations of five nights or more at Marc Resorts will earn agents $40.
