Travel Weekly's Hawaii E-Letter: September 2, 2002

SUNTRIPS is cutting back on its charter flights from Oakland, Calif., to Hawaii, citing lower demand for travel. The company canceled its Sunday, Monday and Thursday flights, starting in September, but is keeping its Friday and Saturday flights. Passengers will be protected on Aloha Airlines, which operates scheduled service from Oakland to Hawaii. SunTrips said it would resume Monday charter flights Oct. 7.

MEANWHILE, SunTrips will offer Oakland-Kona (Big Island) service on Nov. 24 and Dec. 1 to meet the high demand of the Thanksgiving period.

MARC RESORTS Hawaii is paying travel agents $40 in cash in addition to the standard 10% commission for bookings of five-night stays or longer at any Marc Resorts property in Hawaii through Dec. 21. The "Partner Perks" promotion is available at the company's 15 hotels in the islands. For information call (800) 535-0085 or visit

ALOHA AIRLINES relaunched its Web site with GetThere booking technology. GetThere's DirectAirline booking system replaced an EDS booking engine. A GetThere spokesman said its solution enables Aloha to easily manipulate the look and feel of the site, at, and to accommodate increased volumes.
