THE LAS VEGAS CONVENTION AND VISITORS AUTHORITY named Mya Lake Reyes its new manager of diversity marketing. Reyes' responsibilities include the marketing and development of domestic leisure and convention business to the African-American, Hispanic, Asian and Native-American markets. She also will serve as the liaison to local ethnic organizations and chambers of commerce. Reyes, who previously worked at the MGM Grand, replaced Roosevelt Toston, who retired in January.

PHILIPPINE AIRLINES initiated service to its first destination in the North American interior--Las Vegas--via Vancouver, Canada. The new service uses 264-seat Airbus A340-300 aircraft and operates four times a week. AMERICA WEST June 1 will launch daily nonstop service between Las Vegas and Fresno and San Luis Obispo, Calif.; Medford, Ore., and Calgary, Canada. Also on that date, one new nonstop flight will be added between Las Vegas and Santa Barbara, Calif., bringing the total on that route to two daily roundtrip flights. AIRTRAN AIRWAYS will add nonstop service to Las Vegas from Moline, Ill., on June 17. The flights to Las Vegas will operate Thursdays through Mondays while return service to Quad City Airport will operate Fridays through Tuesdays. Also on that date, the carrier will add three flights to its Las Vegas-Dallas/Ft. Worth service. Two of the flights will operate daily while a third will run Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

MEMPHIS CHAMPIONSHIP BARBECUE will open a fourth location in early May on North Rainbow Boulevard. The new west-side location, the chain's largest in Las Vegas, will offer almost 8,400 square feet of space and seat up to 240 guests. The restaurant will feature a bar area, a separate special-events room that can accommodate up to 80 people, and three family dining rooms that can seat up to 12 people each.
