CANOUAN ISLAND, The Grenadines -- To mark his entry into the Caribbean arena, Donald Trump will develop 135 high-end villas on Canouan Island here at the site of the 156-room Raffles Resort (formerly Carenage Bay), which is scheduled to open in mid-2004.

Trump Hotels & Casinos will manage the operations at the Villa Monte Carlo casino at the resort's property.

The villa project will entail several phases and will begin with 15 estate and 10 golf villas adjacent to a Jim Fazio championship golf course.

Antonio Saladino, chairman of Canouan Resorts Development, said that Trump's entry rounded out a team of high-profile partners, "creating the Caribbean's newest luxury leisure destination."

In that regard, the Moorings' charter yacht operation established its third Caribbean base on Canouan last year.
