WAYNE, Pa. -- Travelers are being offered an interesting perspective on Turkey, an ancient country with a rich and diverse civilization, during a program called History, Folklife & Rugs.

The 11-night deluxe program, designed by TunisUSA, will be led by Jerry Sorkin, a noted expert on Oriental rugs and a specialist in Middle East studies; he also is an author and frequent lecturer on subjects relating to the culture and peoples of the Middle East and North Africa.

The tour, which runs from Nov. 14 through 26, is priced at $2,699 per person, double, and includes hotels, all sightseeing, most meals and roundtrip air from New York.

Tour members spend the first three nights in Turkey in Istanbul, including a dinner boat cruise on the Bosporus (weather permitting).

Sightseeing will include the magnificent Topkapi Palace, a visit to Istanbul's famous Covered Bazaar and the Turkish Islamic Art Museum, to view one of the oldest and best-preserved collections of Anatolian rugs.

The next two days are in Goreme in Cappadoccia, a region of unusual landscapes integrated with distinctive troglodytic dwellings.

Driving overland, tour members come to Konya, the unofficial capital of Anatolia and an historic center for rug production; included in the visit here is a chance to see the collection of 15th and 16th century rugs in the Mevlana Museum.

The tour then moves west to Pamukkale, ancient Aphrodisias which is one of the most important archaeological sites in Turkey, to spend the next two nights in Bodrum, known in ancient times by its Greek name, Halicarnassus, and moves on to the Mediterranean port of Bodrum for two nights.

Attractions in this a lively and attractive Mediterranean port include the Crusader Castle of St. Peter and its interesting marine museum.

One afternoon the group will visit a small settlement outside Bodrum where villagers will prepare a traditional lunch.

Tour members make a day's excursion to the ancient city of Ephesus prior to flying from Izmir back to Istanbul for a two-night stay at the end of the trip.
