U.K. promotes cities, gardens

NEW YORK -- The British Tourist Authority plans to roll out two pro-motions for 2001, focusing on Brit-ain's cities and its gardens.

BTA chairman David Quarmby said at a press briefing in New York that the organization will soon issue a brochure titled U.K. City Culture.

The guide will contain information on a dozen urban centers in England, Scotland and Wales.

It will cover cultural attractions and activities in each city, including things like opera, theater, dance, shopping, dining and so on.

For the garden promotion, the BTA will launch an awareness campaign focusing on British gardens.

The publication of a visitors' map showing garden locations and the opening of a Web site extension at www.visitbritain.com/gardens are the cornerstones of the promotion.
