U.K. to test seven humans for hoof-and-mouth

LONDON -- The saga continues: The Public Health Service Laboratory in London said it is testing seven humans for hoof-and-mouth disease.

The possibility of the livestock virus spreading to people couldn't come at a worse time, the British Tourist Authority said, as major campaigns designed to lure back tourists are just getting started.

Test results are expected late next week. Meanwhile, travel to Britain's rural areas and to London continues to suffer.

According to the BTA, Americans normally inject $60 million into London during June, July and August. But this year, the British capital is expecting to receive a fraction of that amount.
