U.S. Virgin Islands launches tourism Web site

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands -- It's official.

The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism launched its first official tourism Web site, at www.usvitourism.vi.

The interactive site features topical news and information for St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas, including destination brochures, press releases and descriptions of visitor attractions.

The U.S.V.I. rates brochure -- listing seasonal prices for each hotel and inn in the islands -- can be downloaded directly from the site.

The U.S. Virgin Islands launched its official Internet tourism site at www.usvitourism.vi, featuring links to events, attractions, hotel rates, promotions and restaurants on each of the three islands. Internet surfers also can preview attractions and activities by accessing video footage from the site.

The quarterly Travel News magazine, along with the latest press releases on promotions, events and general news, also is available on line for agents and vacationers.

"America's Caribbean," the territory's new tag line and logo, is featured on each page.

The consistent use of colors to represent each of the three islands helps browsers navigate through the pages.

St. Croix is represented by a rustic red to denote the countryside atmosphere of the island.

St. John's green color symbolizes the back-to-nature spirit of the island.

The use of gold designates St. Thomas as the bustling location of a shopper's paradise and duty-free center.
