BALA CYNWYD, Pa. -- United Touring Company here has launched a
safari program geared to families with children and added an extra
feature -- a visit to a Masai village -- to existing safaris.
The safari program is
specifically designed for families who would like to experience
Africa together. Children must be at least 7 years of age. Kids
under 12 who share a room with two fully paying adults receive a
50% discount on land costs for east African safaris.
Jeannie Rodgers, president of United Touring Company, noticed a
growing trend of families who wanted to go on safari and share the
experience with their children or grandchildren.
"We have responded by making child-friendly programs featuring
camps and lodges with activities geared toward children. For
adults, we make sure all of the logistical details are handled and
provide other peace-of-mind services, such as the Flying Doctors'
Medical Evacuation Service," she said.
Safaris are available throughout eastern and southern Africa and
can be customized to make it easy to travel with other families or
arrange reunions for extended families.
One of the most
popular safaris for families is Highlights of Kenya, a 10-day
program exploring Nairobi, the Aberdares and Masai Mara Game
Reserve. Rates for this safari begin at $2,775 per person,
including economy air from New York and most meals.
Masai Colors, United Touring Company's other new itinerary, was
arranged in collaboration with the tribe and brings clients to a
working village where they can interact with the Masai people.
"The Masai Colors village gives [United Touring Company's]
travelers the opportunity to learn firsthand how Africans live, how
they harness the medical value of plants, build a village and
become warriors," Rodgers said. This new feature is incorporated on
all the safaris to the Masai Mara Game Reserve and involves about a
one-hour stop at the village.
United Touring has released its 1999-2000 brochure of safaris,
and a variety of rates and trip lengths are available.
