VIENNA -- The Vienna Tourist Board offers a booklet explaining the
customs of the heuriger with a listing of dozens in the Vienna
region, including the dates they are open.
The open dates depend on when the wine is ready and on the size
of the vineyard, which affects how much wine the heuriger has
available to serve.
By tradition, an open heuriger also is marked by a sprig of pine
(or a reasonable substitute) that is hung above the entrance.
But as lively as they can be inside, it's likely you'll be able
to tell as you drive by anyway.
