VIEQUES, Puerto Rico -- Wyndham Martineau Bay Resort & Spa, which opened as the largest resort on Vieques this spring, continues to tweak its product with additional amenities and guest facilities.

The 156-room property, set on 42 oceanfront acres, opened its spa in July.

The 5,000-square-foot plantation-style facility features seven treatment rooms, four of which overlook the Atlantic. In-room spa services and poolside and oceanside massages also are available.

Spa director Marisol Ramirez said that the spa design, treatments and theme "integrate the elements of the island and draw from the healing power of the ocean."

Treatments using products indigenous to Vieques, as well as traditional facial and therapy services, are available.

From the Ocean treatments include a seaweed facial and an ocean-stone massage that incorporates handpicked stones from the ocean. Treatments dubbed From the Island include the Martineau Bay massage with a coconut milk scalp treatment.

Tutt said that the spa "will be a huge bonus for us because we are selling the peace and tranquility of Vieques as much as we are selling our own resort."

Continuing with that theme is the resort's Peace and Tranquility spa package, with a minimum two-night stay requirement, which features a spa treatment for two in addition to accommodations, dinners and free parking.

Package rates from $199 per night, double, are valid through October; the program will be offered again in the peak season with rates adjusted accordingly.
