WHO gives Toronto a lift with SARS action

NEW YORK -- The World Health Organization removed Toronto from its SARS watch list, leaving Taiwan as the only destination on WHO's list.

WHO took the action because 20 days had passed without any occurrence of a new SARS case in Toronto.

A WHO-issued travel advisory had been in effect for Toronto since April 23.

There were 252 cases of SARS diagnosed in Canada and 38 deaths from the illness, according to WHO.
