Warren & Annabelle's nightclub casts its magic on Lahaina

LAHAINA, Hawaii -- Warren & Annabelle's, a $1.2 million, 5,700-square-foot nightclub, opened on Front Street here.

Home to owner and sleight-of-hand magician Warren Gibson, the club features a 78-seat theater where Gibson performs and a large lounge called Annabelle's Parlor.

When patrons enter the club, they are handed a key to try to unlock the correct door in order to enter the parlor. Guests spend an hour in the plush parlor, where drinks, appetizers and desserts are available.

The parlor's big attraction is a piano without a pianist. Patrons shout out requests for specific tunes, and, according to promotional literature, the ghost of Annabelle plays the songs for guests.

Gibson's one-hour show -- with card, coin and ring tricks and plenty of audience participation -- follows in the theater, where patrons can take their drinks and order more. "My vision has always been to offer guests an experience they cannot find anywhere else in the country," he said.

Originally from South Carolina, Gibson has been performing magic tricks since 1979, spicing up presentations when he was a criminal investigator for a bank, and has been at it full time since 1984.

Gibson previously performed at Wizardz, a magic dinner theater at Universal Studios.

He decided on Lahaina as the club's location after honeymooning on Maui in 1993. (His wife, Lisa, is the club's sales and marketing director.)

The club is above Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and next to Sam Choy's restaurant at the Lahaina Center. Shows are 7 p.m. Mondays to Wednesdays, 8:30 p.m. Thursdays to Saturdays; there are no Sunday shows.

Patrons must be at least 21 years old. The price for the show is $36 plus the cost of drinks and food at Annabelle's Parlor. Group rates are available.
