WASHINGTON -- The DC Committee to Promote Washington unveiled a
slogan, Washington, D.C.: The American Experience, as part of a
long-term marketing campaign that aims to bolster the city's image.
Plans call for the slogan, and a new logo depicting the U.S.
flag, to be used in domestic and international marketing campaigns
to promote tour-ism, conventions and business development, as well
as cultural and special events. "This new message differentiates
the District of Columbia from competing destinations and positions
our city perfectly within the global market," according to V.
Melanie Suggs, the committee's executive director.
The committee plans to seek public and private sector partners
to support the campaign, as a prelude to a print and television
advertising effort starting in February.
