LAS VEGAS -- After undergoing a yearlong $75 million renovation,
the structure that once housed the Maxim hotel and casino has
opened its doors again, this time as the city's and the state's
first Westin property.
Designed to appeal both to the business and the leisure
traveler, the Westin Casuarina Las Vegas, which debuted Nov. 6,
could not be located in a better spot -- on Flamingo Road, within
walking distance of the Strip and one mile from the Las Vegas
Convention Center, the Sands Convention Center and the Mandalay Bay
Convention Center.
The 17-story resort has 825 guest rooms, including six
one-bedroom suites and four two-bedroom suites.
Each room features Westin's signature Heavenly Bed, which
consists of a custom-designed pillow-top mattress set, a down
blanket, three sheets with thread counts of up to 250, a comforter,
a duvet and five pillows.
The granite
bathrooms are equipped with the Westin Heavenly Bath, which
includes a dual shower head and a curved shower-curtain rod that
provides an additional eight inches of space.
Guest rooms also feature an iron and ironing board, an alarm
clock, a hair dryer, a coffeemaker, dual-line telephones, a
cordless phone and high-speed Internet access on request.
Nightly room rates start at $139 weekdays and $189 on weekends;
suites start at $499 per night for a one-bedroom and $699 for a
two-bedroom.
For dining, guests can sample California cuisine at the Silver
Peak Restaurant, which is open 24 hours a day and offers an a la
carte menu and buffet. The 200-seat eatery also features a private
dining area for functions.
Gamblers, especially, will be intrigued by the property's
20,000-square-foot Casuarina Casino, whose intimate design --
seating such as sofas, tables and loveseats clustered around the
gaming tables -- is modeled after European gaming parlors.
The casino, which features 350 slot machines and video poker
machines as well as 10 table games, also offers a player bonus
system. The Premium Players Club allows guests $10 in free slot
play when they sign up for the premium players card; in addition,
members are eligible to receive cash-back and personalized
benefits.
All players have the chance to earn free slot play, gifts and
Star Points, which can be redeemed at all Starwood Resort
properties.
The Casino Lounge, situated on a raised platform, serves as an
entrance to the casino from the reception area. Its translucent
screen gives patrons a sense of privacy while watching the action
in the casino.
The hotel's 200-seat showroom spotlights comedian David Brenner,
who has signed on for a one-year, 44-week engagement.
Brenner performs a 90-minute solo concert six nights a week,
starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $50 each plus tax, and group
discounts are available.
For hotel guests who are in Las Vegas on business, the new
Westin, which is located 1.5 miles from McCarran Airport, boasts
10,000 square feet of meetings space, including a 3,600-square-foot
ballroom, a 5,000-square-foot meetings room that can be divided
into five different sections and two private boardrooms that each
can hold up to 10 people.
Starwood Turbo Net High Speed Internet access also is available
in all meetings rooms.
