Westin resort pays 15% on golf plans

PALM HARBOR -- The Westin Innisbrook Resort is offering 15% pay on its two-night- and-longer in-house golf packages for the rest of 1999.

Allen Goodman, director of sales and marketing, said the higher commission is meant to focus agents' attention on the packages, which include the three Summer Saver plans in effect for stays through Sept. 22. The property has five championship courses and the on-site Innisbrook Troon Golf Institute, where professional instruction is available in another package.

Package highlights follow.

ò Classic Golf, two nights, from $218 per person, double, includes a room, one round of golf, advance tee time and unlimited use of the fitness center.

ò Preferred Golf, two nights, from $280 per person, double, for a room or $320 for a club suite, includes breakfast and 18 holes of golf daily on a choice of four courses, unlimited practice sessions, unlimited fitness center use, daily golf clinics and club storage. Optional is a second round of golf on the same day. Greens fees range from $25 to $100.

ò Platinum Golf, two nights, $440 per person, double, for a room, $480 for a club suite. The plan includes breakfast and lunch daily, unlimited golf, reserved tee times, unlimited practice sessions, club storage, daily golf clinics, Platinum Golf gift pack (golf balls with the hotel's logo) and unlimited use of the fitness center.

The Innisbrook Troon Golf Institute offers two-night packages featuring instruction. The package is available on the following weekends: June 4 to 6, June 11 to 13 and June 18 to 20; Aug. 20 to 22 and Aug. 27 to 29, and Sept. 3 to 5 and Sept. 10 to 12.

The cost per student, single or double, is $850, including a suite, breakfast and lunch with the instructors, 12 hours of instruction, on-course play, golf fees on Sundays, videotape analysis, gift pack and club storage.

In other news, Innisbrook opened its $3.4 million, three-acre Loch Ness Pool and Spa as part of a $50 million renovation, which is continuing. The pool area features two water slides, a 15-foot waterfall and a whirlpool seating 36.

The renovation also calls for a new reception center and clubhouse, which will house registration, a lobby bar, a new dining room, specialty shops, a grocery and the golf shop for the new Eagle's Watch and Hawk's Run courses.

A new health club and spa are planned as well. All of these facilities will be completed in early 2000. Although the Westin Innisbrook has three conference halls with a total of 65,000 square feet of meeting space, a hotel spokeswoman said the property is striving to expand its image beyond the conventions market.
