Westin to light up Times Square

NEW YORK -- The 863-room Westin New York at Times Square, located at 43rd Street and Eighth Avenue, is scheduled to open Oct. 16 with more than 34,000 square feet of function space for small to midsize meetings.

Designed by Miami architectural firm Arquitectonica, the 45-story hotel is owned and was developed by Tishman Realty and Construction Co.

The hotel comprises two towers that will be lighted to resemble a pair of prisms separated by a curved beam of light.

The beam will originate in the nine-story interior atrium and "break through" the hotel's copper, blue and silver glass exterior. It will give the illusion of splitting the towers as it arches to the top and exits the structure.

The glass-and-light motifs will be repeated in the lobby, where guests will be greeted by a stainless steel, red-neon marquee and a welcome carpet featuring illuminated Westin logos.

David Sargent, director of sales and marketing, said the Westin New York "signals the continued growth and vitality of New York and the Times Square area."

A curved beam of light separates the two towers that together make up the Westin New York at Times Square. The midtown property is slated to open Oct. 16 and will feature more than 34,000 square feet of function space. Sargent said he expects the hotel's client mix will be 70% corporate and 30% group.

The hotel is connected to the E-Walk entertainment and retail complex on 42nd Street and has entrances on both 42nd and 43rd streets. The hotel and E-Walk complex combined will total 867,000 square feet.

The hotel features 124 Club rooms and suites with amenities such as a dedicated concierge and enhanced business services. There are 32 meetings and breakout rooms, a business center and a fitness center and spa.

The hotel features Westin's One Call service, which provides meetings planners with dedicated Westin meetings managers to handle function details for small meetings.

Other signature Westin amenities include the Heavenly Bed and the Heavenly Bath, which features velour bathrobes and luxury spa products.

All rooms are equipped with two-line phones (one cordless) with voice mail and data ports, wireless keyboard for TV Internet access, 27-inch cable TVs, safes large enough to accommodate laptops, minibars, coffeemakers and irons and ironing boards.

Dining options include the only Shula's Steak House in the city, a sushi bar and a gourmet pastry and coffee shop.
