SEBASTAPOL, Calif. -- There is a new operator to Egypt, and its
motto is "Insanity with Dignity." Wild Women Adventures here, which
is co-owned by Carol Rivendell and Martha Lindt, is an all-women
tour operator that is expanding into the Egypt market in the fall
"We met wonderful people -- the Egyptians are so hospitable -- and
were incredibly impressed by the quality of the tour.
"The itinerary was well crafted and unique and South Sinai's
Egyptologist, Hany Iskandar, who we plan to use on all our future
trips, was knowledgeable in a way that made ancient Egyptian life
Lindt, who formerly owned her own travel agency, said she felt
there was a real niche for women who wanted to travel on their own,
but not alone. Egypt seemed like a great destination for these
women."We feel that Egypt is a very safe destination for our tour
and it offers such great experiences."
"The spice market in Aswan at night. Shopping with the locals,
you're just surrounded by these vibrant colors and intense smells.
That just does it for me."
Other highlights of the tour are the camel market outside Aswan,
a cruise up the Nile river with stops at temples along the way, tea
at a private island, and day trips around Cairo to experience the
pyramids and the Sphinx. Rivendell stresses that "groups are never
larger than 14. Most of our tours consist of women who want to
travel, but don't have someone to travel with.
"They come from all walks of life: married, but husbands don't
like to travel; single; divorced; young career women, and
"Women on our tours usually create a friendship that lasts after
our tours are over," Rivendell said.
As for their motto?
"Women are seen as a bit insane for going off on their own,
leaving their loved ones behind and doing their own thing,"
"We give in to that indulgence but in a dignified way. We don't
go out and get drunk, but instead enjoy high-quality travel and
