World of Oz Cruises the Carian Coast in Two Gulets

Reed Travel Features

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The World of Oz is combining Classical Cities and Azure Seas in a deluxe, escorted 13-night vacation that includes seven nights aboard a private gulet cruising the Carian coast of Turkey.

The gulet is a broad-beamed, two-masted, wooden hull motor-sail boat, typical of Turkish design.

Unusual for these comfortable and traditional craft, the gulets the operator is using -- the nine-cabin Fortuna and the six-cabin Myra -- are air conditioned.

Cabins also have private bath with separate shower and sink.

World of Oz passengers will find a resident archaeologist on board who is fluent in English and excels in the fields of Turkish history, art and archaeology.

The archaeologist will accompany passengers on a cruise starting in Bodrum and ending in Marmaris, with a stop in Greek waters on the island of Simi.

Before boarding for the cruise, travelers will have spent three nights in Istanbul and toured the classical cities of Izmir, Pergamon, Sardis and Ephesus, with the final two nights in Bodrum at the 11-room villa, the Golden Key.

Seven departures are scheduled from May to the beginning of October, in all months except July and August.

The land and cruise price per person, double, is $3,075; the six-night land rate is $1,925, and the cruise-only cost is $1,450.

Tour features include deluxe hotels -- in Istanbul at the new Four Seasons and in Bodrum at the Golden Key, an 11-room private villa.

Also included are most meals on the land portion and all meals at sea, private guides, motorcoach transfers and sightseeing.

For reservations, contact the World of Oz at (800) 248-0234 or (804) 496-8108.
