Wyndham El San Juan a big winner in PRTC tourism survey

SAN JUAN -- The 389-room Wyndham El San Juan Hotel & Casino took four first-place awards in the second annual tourism survey that rated the quality of accommodations in Puerto Rico, according to the Puerto Rico Tourism Co., which conducted the government-sponsored survey of all lodgings on the island.

The awards were presented to David Kurland, El San Juan's president and managing director, by Jose Corujo, executive director of the PRTC.

El San Juan won in the hotel/resort category for best rooms, housekeeping and food and beverage divisions. The resort also was selected as the best overall hotel.

"Our goal at PRTC is to improve service and increase the value of our island as a tourism product," Corujo said.

"We have the best emotional mix and experiences that a tourist destination can offer. That is why we should focus our efforts on continuing to offer the best service ever."

Awards in the rooms division category for small to midsize hotels went to the 59-room El Convento in Old San Juan, the Lazy Parrot Inn & Restaurant in Rincon and the 24-room Parador Bahia Salinas in Cabo Rojo.

In the housekeeping division, the 200-room Hampton Inn in San Juan took the top award for the second straight year. El Buen Cafe in Hatillo took the award for paradors.

The 39-room Horned Dorset Primavera in Rincon took top honors in the food and beverage division for small to midsize hotels. Posada Porlamar in La Parguera and Bahia Salinas won in the parador category.
