The day after Thanksgiving traditionally kicks off the holiday shopping season. It's the time of the year to indulge yourself by making lists: lists for yourself, lists for friends -- outlandish lists, even fantasy lists. In that spirit, we asked around the industry and came up with some suggestions to get you started:

The brick-and-mortar manager list

  • A good doormat so people can wipe their feet when they come in
  • A voice-activated GDS
  • A "turbo" switch for IAR
  • A place for clients to park
  • A multifunction, bona fide agent ID flash memory card that can track all destination credentials and GDS skills, so I don't have to give lie-detector tests to job applicants
  • The work-at-home agent list

  • Soft, warm and comfortable slippers so I can pad around the office
  • A wireless network so I can carry the laptop to the kitchen table and stay online
  • A "turbo" switch for my combo printer/fax/copier
  • A place for clients to park
  • A multifunction, bona fide agent ID flash memory card that can track all of my specialist credentials and be read by all suppliers, sort of like an EZ Pass
  • The airport manager list

  • Steel-toed shoes so that my toes won't break when angry passengers stomp on my feet
  • Flight-information screens that will magically arrange the flights alphabetically for the people who want them alphabetical, and chronologically for the people who want them chronological
  • A "turbo" switch for the baggage carousels
  • A place for me to park
  • A multifunction passenger ID card with flash memory that I can program to keep certain people out of the food court
  • The road warrior list

  • Transparent shoes, so the airport screeners can see I'm not hiding any bombs there
  • Ultralight, portable, battery-powered Wi-Fi generator, so I can be my own "hot spot"
  • A "turbo" switch for airport moving walkways
  • A navigation system that will help me find the car rental lot
  • A multifunction trusted-traveler ID and expense-tracking flash memory card that can be read at all TSA screening stations and at all airline gates, car rental sites and hotel room doors, sort of like an EZ Pass
