Up until last week we had nothing but respect and good wishes for Cruise West, but those feelings are now tinged with a big dose of disappointment.
There are good ways to deal with bad news and bad ways. Cruise West has been compounding its obvious financial and organizational challenges by not dealing forthrightly with consumers and agents.
It was bad enough that the company abruptly terminated a world cruise, stranding passengers in Newfoundland, but the ensuing trickle of information has been conflicting, confusing and wholly inadequate, erasing decades of goodwill in the minds of its many loyal fans.
That is an enormous liability and, sadly, it hangs heavily over the company's efforts to restructure.
