A film crew was based at the Buccaneer resort on St. Croix during
the monthlong filming of a pilot for a TV show. The Hollywood types
were all seated at dinner one night in the resort's open-air
restaurant. Suddenly, the low hum of muted conversation and the
tinkling of a piano in the background were shattered by the
simultaneous ringing of nine cellular telephones at one table. A
look of mixed disbelief, dismay and disgust crossed the maitre d's
face. He hurriedly crossed the tile floor to the offending table.
"Please, gentlemen, put your telephones on vibrate or leave them in
your room. The noise is quite offensive to our other guests," he
said. Refinement is alive and well, after all.
