The Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism (DBEDT) lowered its forecast for total visitor arrival growth in 2013 to 4.3%, a reduction of 1.1 percentage points from an earlier estimate made during the first quarter of this year.

The agency also reduced its projected total visitor spending growth to 5.6%, a lowering of 1.5 percentage points from its previous forecast.

State officials attributed the revised figures for 2013 to reductions in available air seats from the U.S. mainland during the second half of this year.

The DBEDT is still expecting more than 8.3 million visitor arrivals across the Hawaiian Islands in 2013 and a total expenditures mark of $15.3 billion; both figures would be new all-time highs for the destination.
