HONOLULU -- When Declan Barton, a corporate travel agent for Global Star Travel in Sacramento, Calif., entered Aston Hawaii's "Family Reunion for Twenty" sweepstakes last year, winning seemed like a long shot.

But Dec. 1, 2003, was her lucky day. That was when Aston executives reached in and picked one winner out of 170,000 hopefuls.

"It was a few days before Christmas when I received the overnight package from Aston," Barton said. "I ripped it open and said , 'Oh, my God, I won!' "

Barton won five one-bedroom suites at Aston's Waikiki Sunset property on Oahu for a four-day vacation, May 29 to June 5. She invited 19 family members to join her, and Hawaiian Airlines picked up their round-trip tab to Honolulu.

Barton had read about the contest in TravelAge West, a sister publication of Travel Weekly.

"I thought the trip would be perfect because I have a large family, and we were just talking about going to Hawaii," she said.

The contest, which was open to the public, was a joint venture with Family Fun Magazine and Aston Hawaii's Web site. Contestants applied either through the Web site or by mail to the magazine.

The company hopes to hold another family sweepstakes later this year or next, according to a hotel representative.
