Low-cost carrier Allegiant has suspended a number of its routes connecting the U.S. mainland to Hawaii and will put more on seasonal hiatus in August.

The carrier recently placed its nonstop flights from Bellingham, Wash., to both Kahului, Maui and Honolulu on what it’s calling “seasonal hiatus” and will do the same for its nonstop flights from Eugene, Ore., Fresno, Calif., and Phoenix to Honolulu in August.

“Hawaii is a very seasonal market, with the heaviest demand in the summer,” said Allegiant spokesman Micah Lillard. “Our flexibility allows us to react to that demand and alter our schedules to match the seasonal ebb and flow of leisure travel.”

However, Allegiant’s service to Hawaii from both Los Angeles and Las Vegas will continue year round, Lillard said, noting that no additional changes were expected to the carrier’s Hawaii schedule prior to Feb. 10 of next year.
