Base fares for American Airlines roundtrips between the U.S. mainland and Hawaii have increased by $21, according to a March 11 report by the Associated Press.

Other base fares to U.S. destinations onboard American flights also increased, by $10.

The AP report said the increase was the seventh such broad price boost by U.S. carriers this year, necessitated, the airlines say, by the increasing cost of fuel.

American has also increased the cost of reserving a flight by phone from $20 to $25.
