The former Outrigger Surf East in Waikiki has been renamed the Ohia Waikiki.

Aqua Hospitality has acquired the 17-story Waikiki hotel known formerly as the Outrigger Surf East.

Aqua renamed the 251-room property the Ohia Waikiki and has begun work there on a $2 million refurbishment. However, an extensive renovation is planned sometime in the “next few years” to reposition the property as a three-star hotel, according to an Aqua statement.

Kitchenettes in the property’s hotel rooms, studios and junior suites feature four-burner stoves and ovens while each guestroom also has a private lanai. Other amenities include a pool, sundeck and a 24-hour restaurant.

The Ohia Waikiki is located on Kuhio Avenue about two blocks from the beach.
