"Backyard Monsters: The World of Insects" is on exhibit at the Bishop Museum's Castle Memorial Building in Honolulu through Sept. 7.
The interactive exhibit features giant robotic models of insects including a paper wasp, a Monarch butterfly, a scorpion and a 12-foot tarantula. "Backyard Monsters" also includes insect vision games and display cases full of exotic insect specimens from around the globe.
The Bishop Museum is also running a companion event, "Bonkers for Bugs," on June 26 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Hosted by Shepherd Myers, the museum's entomology collection manager, the evening will offer visitors an up-close look at a variety of specimens from the Bishop's collection of Pacific insects.
